WIELAND partnered with EXPAL USA, the U.S. subsidiary of the European defense company EXPAL, in 2017 to execute a comprehensive design-build project in Hooks, TX. This initiative involved the complete renovation of four buildings, totaling 29,000 SF, to create a specialized facility for the demilitarization of ammunition, including cluster bombs and scatterable mines.
WIELAND provided full project management, overseeing the entire scope from initial design through to final construction. The new facility supports EXPAL’s core mission of managing the full lifecycle of ammunition and explosives for its global clientele, which includes Ministries of Defense, armed forces, and international defense organizations. This project expanded EXPAL USA’s Texas-based operations, which also encompass the development of new energetics and load assembly and packing for conventional ammunition.
