St. James Catholic Church
Orlando, FL
St. James has stood as a piece of Orlando history since its founding and the dedication of its first church building in 1887. Sixty-four years later the church constructed the building’s current iteration and moved the original wooden church and rectory to the southwest boundary of the property.
The church would become an important figure in the creation of the Orlando Diocese in 1968 and would later become the Cathedral of the Diocese in 1976. Since then, St. James Cathedral has undergone multiple additions and renovations as it continues to be the central figure of the Orlando Diocese.
WIELAND has been a small piece of the history of the Orlando Diocese, completing multiple projects for the Diocese. S. James totaled 8,000 SF with updates to the Parish Hall meeting as well as enhancements to the exterior courtyard. The project was designed by Houseman Architecture in Orlando, FL. WIELAND completed the project for the Diocese in January 2025.
